I'm back! After a two week vacation, I have a lot to share!
While I have avoided publishing much about my family, for privacy reasons, you need to know a few things for the next few posts to make sense. My wife and I just finished adopting two young sisters from Ethiopia. We have several biological children already, but even before we married, my wife brought up adoption as one of her life's goals. We have now finished the long, hard process and I've learned a lot.
We now have two young girls, who can't speak English yet, adapting to new foods, people, habbits, etc. We also spent a week in Ethiopia while we finalized the adoption. These facts are generating a lot of thoughts I want to share with you.
What I Have Learned From This Adoption Experience
- A frugal family is a happy family
- Having a major goal in common unites a couple and a family
- Managing more kids than we have hands for is hard
- Kids + Computers ? Problems
- Return to your roots every few years
- Prepare hard so that living is easy
- Grandparents need grandchildren, and vice versa
- Culture shock increases as company decreases
- Free markets are not usually fair markets
- Safety is relative
- Wealth is not a zero-sum game
- American presidents are people, just like you and me
- I could be President of the United States
- Adults like lollipops too
I intend to write about each of these in separate posts. As I complete the posts, I'll link them here. I may add to this list too. Either way, check back often for the next few weeks.

Me and my developer working on a new drupal company follow you on Drupal.org and I just wanted to say congratulations to you and your wife. I am Married and have a 2 year old son and I know the level of work and love you need to provide so it is a great gift you give to your newly adopted sisters. Hope it all goes well ;-) Michael Wenn and Alan Pritt of Avatar Spring.
I want to read about the lolipops :) I was there, but you were the one who made the situation magical...
