Study: Daniel
Gratitude and Health & Wellness
The Bishop [J. Craig Roberts] asked me to speak about these two topics and their relationship to one anther. At first glance they seem entirely unrelated. However, Daniel was a perfect example of both and I believe that his effectiveness as a servant of God relied, in part, upon his strict adherence to these practices:
- Daniel 1:3-20 – The foundation
- Daniel 2:1-5 – The first challenge
- Daniel 2:17-30 – Daniel expressed gratitude immediately. Also humility.
- Daniel 2:45-49 – The reward was a greater capacity to serve.
- Daniel 3 – Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah show their own strength and trust.
- Daniel 4:9 – “...the spirit of the Holy gods is in thee, and no secret troubleth thee...”
- Daniel 4:35-37 – even king Nebuchadnezzar was brought to gratitude through the ministrations of Daniel.
- Daniel 5:11-16 – Belshazzar (son of Nebuchadnezzar) learns about Daniels strengths and qualities.
- Daniel 6:3 – “...Daniel was preferred...because an excellent spirit was within him...”
- Daniel 6:4 – Daniel was without fault or error.
- Daniel 6:10 – Daniel prayed in gratitude three times a day.
- Daniel 6:26-27 – Darius (supplanter of Belshazzar) praises God at Daniel's delivery from the lion's den.
- Daniel 6:28 – Daniel prospers.
- Daniel 10:2-6, 11-12, 19 – In fasting, Daniel speaks with God. Daniel is much beloved because of his humility and desires to know.
- Philippians 4:6-7 – Worry not, be thankful and peace above all shall come.
- Alma 34:37-38 (or to 41) – be thankful in order to have staying power to the end.
- D&C 46:7 – Thanksgiving is insurance against deception.
- D&C 89:11 – use all with thanksgiving.
- D&C 89:18-21 – The latter-day passover.
