I have wanted to make this change for over a year now, and after a series of issues with my old provider, 1&1, I finally switched my site to Bluehost. I'm sharing my brother's account, so some of the configuration is more convoluted than I like—but it works!
The move was easier than I expected for Drupal. Bluehost uses Fantastico to install lots of great apps. I used it to install Drupal, then I copied all my site settings and DB entries, changed the settings files to point to the new DB, and voila!
For the record, 1&1 is a frustrating host. Configuration changes take way to long to go into effect and they have lots of restrictions on your account usage. Oh, and they have horrible naming conventions for users and databases. And, they were almost twice as expensive as Bluehost, for less disk space, transfer quotas, etc.
My brother has used Bluehost for two years now and so far so good. I think he had a day or two of down time, but I have had much more with 1&1.
But what pleases me most is the speed increase. Bluehost is a local company while 1&1 is in Germany. I transfered my site folders in 1/10th the time of 1&1. I wonder if Bluehost is connected to Utopia? My upload speed never leveled off, but climbed until the files were finished (at about 300Kbps).
I'm glad to be back, and I have plenty to add to my site.
