This TED talk is rather interesting because it presents an alternative viewpoint from most of the environmental talks on TED. For example, Amory states that Activists and Conservationists didn't cause the decline in commercial whaling, technology advancement and capitalism did. I actually am not surprised by this.
Amory mentions early on that all his materials are available online at www.oilendgame.com.
Wow! Cars and light trucks only use 6% of their fuel energy to actually move. Less than 1% goes to moving the human occupant. I didn't know it was that bad. No wonder electric cars (or no cars even) make more sense!
Amory's big message is that conservation is far cheaper than buying more and we can conserve faster than we can innovate—and we can innovate very quickly when we want to.
He demonstrates many of the new materials which would radically change auto construction.
This talk covered a lot of ground. It would be very interesting to many of the engineers I work with.
